I always feel like I’m taking up a creator’s valuable time when they’re personalizing a book to me, a person they’re likely never gonna see again…

Oh, and if anyone’s interested in picking up the new illustrated edition of my prose novel The Blood Jaguar–don’t worry; they got an actual artist to do the pictures–it’ll be for sale at the Sofawolf Press booth, #1236, while Dan Goodsell of The World of Mr. Toast will be in his usual spot at booth #4831.

And I’m sure there’ll be the usual high drama when, for the seventh year in a row, I introduce myself to Brad Guigar as one of his three remaining competitors in the Daily Grind Contest and he asks, “Is that still going on?”

I’m sympathetic to the problem, and I would never flip something like that, but I also hate the pretense of familiarity inherent in a personalized book. Unless the artist in question is actually a personal friend addressing the book from one friend to another, I’d really just rather have a signature.

But I guess that’s just me.
